The Findel team climbs Snowdon for Derian House
July 2022
On the 17th of June, 18 brave hikers from all across Findel’s departments trekked up Britain’s highest summit, Mount Snowdon, in the name of Derian House Children’s Hospice.
Our 18 intrepid climbers were Claire Woolley, Gary McDowell, Mark Whittaker, Alan Harding, Paul Clarke, Mike Box, Kate Clayton, Gary Hadfield, Lisa Holmes, Danielle Cloake, Chris Gibson, Rob Fox, Tom Edwards, Richard John, Alan Doherty, Trisha Mistry, Rachael Tansey-Brown, Anita O’Malley, Heva Simpson and our CEO himself, Chris Mahady.
Our brave group chose the Pyg Trail and set off nice and early Friday morning, but in a cruel twist, it turned out to be the hottest day of the year so far at that point. But despite the sweltering weather, our plucky group carried on until they all made it to the top – and in excellent time too!
Chris told us “The team spirit was amazing, pulling each other along. The fastest team members hit the summit in 2 hours, and we had all completed the walk in in 2hrs and 30 minutes, what an achievement! Everyone really enjoyed the day and got so much more out of the event than they expected.”
The team managed to raise all together a very impressive £7350 in total for Derian House. Derian House is a charity which supports children with life-limiting conditions and their families, so it was important to Findel to raise this money to make sure they keep running and doing all the good work.
Rachael Tansey-Brown, Head of Digital said “Knowing we were raising money for such a worthwhile cause definitely helped motivate us during some of the tough sections of the hike. We felt an immense sense of achievement when we reached the summit. Thank you to all of those who sponsored us.”
Tom Edwards, Senior Marketing Manager, said “I had a great time with the Findel team, raising vital funds for Derian, enjoying the stunning scenery and getting to know my colleagues outside the office. Oh, and don’t forget the ice cream at the bottom! Here’s to the next one…”
According to the team, they were already planning their next climb on the way down, so keep your eyes peeled for our next expedition. Let’s just hope it’s cooler next time!
